I have always believed that the best way (or the only, perhaps) that work with children chores is making them see you happy, let them help when they want and also leave them alone when they want.
But like everything, chores also require a learning process and for patience from parents. Some time ago I saw a post from Sandy about how to help children learn to put the machine through a "visual lesson."
